Understanding Project Scale: Small, Medium, and Large

When commissioning visual content, selecting the right project size helps us accurately plan time, allocate resources, and deliver the best result for your budget. At Monolith Visuals, we use three clear scale categories - Small, Medium, and Large - to reflect the complexity of your project. These sizes influence pricing, production time, and the structure of our proposal.

This journal post breaks down each size category with examples, use cases, and a guide to help you choose the correct option.

Small Projects

Typical scope: One small single dwelling, product vignette, or interior scene
Recommended for: Quick studies, concept development, product visuals, small renovations

Small-scale visuals are perfect when you need a clear, focused output for a modest space. This might include a single home, a compact extension, or a design-led product render. Turnaround is usually quick, and the workflow is streamlined due to the lower volume of modelling and fewer camera views.

Examples include:

  • Single residential unit (under 150m²)

  • One interior room (e.g. a kitchen or bedroom)

  • A standalone product or furniture piece

Medium Projects

Typical scope: One larger dwelling, or a complex single unit with multiple viewpoints
Recommended for: Private residential homes, small-scale developments, full interior fit-outs

Medium projects are more detailed and often include multiple viewpoints or a more layered composition. These often require more context modelling, refined materials, and careful attention to interior and exterior relationships.

Examples include:

  • A large private home (150–400m²)

  • Multiple interior spaces within one unit

  • One house plus garden and outbuildings

  • A small commercial space, café, or retail unit

Large Projects

Typical scope: Multiple dwellings, a group of buildings, or extensive interior and landscape scope
Recommended for: Residential developments, housing schemes, commercial projects, multi-unit work

Large projects cover visuals for more expansive schemes, often requiring broader context modelling, aerial viewpoints, more complex landscaping, and a higher level of technical planning. These often benefit from our panoramic or animated services to fully communicate the design intent.

Examples include:

  • Housing schemes with multiple detached or semi-detached units

  • Apartment buildings or mixed-use blocks

  • Large commercial interiors with multiple zones

  • Community or civic buildings with complex public space
